Wipeout Reflux Editorial Policy

I started Wipeout Reflux because I couldn’t find what I needed. I’ve lived with LPR for twelve years, and most of what I read online was either recycled food lists with no reasoning behind them, or research papers written for clinicians. This page explains how I try to do better, so you can judge for yourself whether to trust what you read here.

Who writes this site

Every article is written by me, David Gray. I’m not a doctor. What I bring is twelve years of managing LPR personally, several years of reading the primary literature closely, and one-to-one consultation work with people dealing with the same condition — which means I hear, constantly, where the standard advice fails people in practice.

Where my personal experience informs something, I say so explicitly rather than dressing it up as established fact.

How I source what I write

I work from primary peer-reviewed research wherever it exists — the original study, not a summary of a summary.

Every substantive claim is cited inline with the authors, journal and year, and linked to PubMed or the source itself so you can read it yourself. If you’ve ever tried to trace a claim on a health site back to its origin and hit a dead end, that’s the thing I’m trying to avoid.

Where the evidence is weak, mixed, or based on small studies, I say so. Where something works for many people but hasn’t been formally trialled, I say that too. A lot of reflux advice sits in that second category, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

What I won’t do

I don’t recommend anything on the basis that it’s popular, and I don’t repeat claims I can’t trace to a source. If I can’t find evidence for a widely repeated piece of reflux advice, I’ll tell you that the evidence isn’t there rather than quietly leaving it in.

Accuracy checking

Before publication, every article is checked against its sources: I go back through each claim and confirm it genuinely reflects what the cited research found, rather than a convenient reading of it. Articles are re-checked when they’re updated.

I’m working towards independent review of the site’s core articles by a registered health professional. Where that’s in place, the reviewer will be named on the article itself, so you can always tell which pieces have been through it and who checked them.

Updates and corrections

Reflux research moves, and older articles go out of date. I work through the site systematically, updating articles as new evidence emerges or as my own understanding improves. The “Updated” date on an article reflects a genuine review of its content, not an automated timestamp.

If you spot an error, please tell me at david@wipeoutreflux.com. I’ll correct it and note the change. I’d much rather be corrected than be wrong in public.

Affiliate links and independence

Some articles contain affiliate links, explained in full in my affiliate disclosure. No product is recommended because of a commercial relationship. If I recommend something, it’s because I use it, have researched it, or have seen it help the people I work with — and I say which of those applies.

An important limit

Everything here is education, not personal medical care. I can explain mechanisms, evidence and general approaches. I can’t diagnose you, and no article can account for your specific history, medications or other conditions. If your symptoms are persistent, worsening, or new, please see a doctor — particularly if you have difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, or are bringing up blood.
